چکیده

Deadwood is an important indicator of biodiversity in forest ecosystems. Identifying areas with large density standing dead trees through field inventory challenging, and remotely sensed data can provide a more systematic approach. In this study, we used metrics derived from airborne laser scanning (ALS) (7.1 points m−2) vegetation indices optical images (HySpex sensor VNIR-1800: 0.3 m, SWIR-384: 0.7 m) to predict the presence over 15.9 km2 managed Southern Norway. The basal area (DBA) 40 sample plots was computed classify into presence/absence trees. An area-based approach (ABA) using logistic regression initially tested, but due limited ground reference information, no statistically significant models could be formulated. A tree-based (TBA) overcome limitation. It identified on ALS point cloud local maxima function index determine if were dead. Between 18% 42% predicted intersected recorded validation dataset. TBA provided good alternative context few

Detecting Terrain Stoniness From Airborne Laser Scanning Data †

Three methods to estimate the presence of ground surface stones from publicly available Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) point clouds are presented. The first method approximates the local curvature by local linear multi-scale fitting, and the second method uses Discrete-Differential Gaussian curvature based on the ground surface triangulation. The third baseline method applies Laplace filtering t...

Detecting and Measuring Individual Trees Using an Airborne Laser Scanner

High-resolution airborne laser scanner data offer the possibility to detect and measure individual trees. In this study, an algorithm which estimated position, height, and crown diameter of individual trees was validated with field measurements. Because all the trees in this study were measured on the ground with high accuracy, their positions could be linked with laser measurements, making val...

Detecting pruning of individual stems using Airborne Laser Scanning data captured from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Modern forest management involves implementing optimal pruning regimes. These regimes aim to achieve the highest quality timber in the shortest possible rotation period. Although a valuable addition to forest management activities, tracking the application of these treatments in the field to ensure best practice management is not economically viable. This paper describes the use of Airborne Las...

Classification of Defoliated Trees Using Tree-Level Airborne Laser Scanning Data Combined with Aerial Images

Climate change and rising temperatures have been observed to be related to the increase of forest insect damage in the boreal zone. The common pine sawfly (Diprion pini L.) (Hymenoptera, Diprionidae) is regarded as a significant threat to boreal pine forests. Defoliation by D. pini can cause severe growth loss and tree mortality in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) (Pinaceae). In this study, log...
